The hornbook was used as a primer for early basic instruction. It consisted of a wooden piece, usually around 5 in. long, with a handle. The lesson sheet was affixed to one side of the wood and covered with a thin sheet of translucent horn, usually nailed around the edges. The lesson usually consisted of the alphabet, the Lord's Prayer and Roman numerals. This adaptation is a 1/4 in. thick wooden "hornbook" with a lesson sheet on one side (no horn). Comes packaged in a plastic bag with an information card. Approximately 5 in. long.
