"Our Indian corn, even the coarsest, maketh as pleasant a meat as rice..."
- Edward Winslow, Mayflower passenger
This pottage was perhaps the commonest of staples in 1627 New Plymouth, a dish the colonists referred to as sampe from the Native word Nasaump. Sampe can be made sweet or savory. Prepare with milk like a rice pudding, adding sugar, cinnamon and currants or raisins. Or, prepare with water adding pepper, salt, butter and other herbs as you like to make a tasty sidedish for any meal. A nice alternative to rice. Grown and packaged in the USA.
Included with your ground corn is a recipe for 'Sampe' - a Pottage of Native Corn.
