Wool Poppet Doll

$ 35.00

Made exclusively for Plimoth Patuxet by local artisan Mary Michaud, our collectible wool poppets are a delight! Poppet dresses come in a range of colors, please allow us to choose for you.

Small figures in the form of human beings used as children's playthings have existed for centuries. In the early 17th century, they were called: babe, baby, or poppet (from the french word for doll, poupée). The use of the term "doll" in the sense of a child's toy was first recorded in 1700.

Pilgrim children probably played with poppets like these — homemade from scraps of linen and wool cloth.
