Staffordshire Cup

Staffordshire Cup

$ 39.95

Archaeological excavations of historic sites typically reveal many bits of broken pottery indicating that multi-handled cups like these were popular in the 17th century. It is not clear whether the handles were decorative or if they were useful in passing a cup back and forth in a time when shared drinks were not uncommon. Modeled after a piece found in Staffordshire, England, this mug has three decorative wavy handles in between the larger handles. A beautiful piece of reproduction redware. Handmade by a member of our Interpretative Artisans Program in the Crafts Center here at Plimoth Patuxet, each is slightly different.
