Henry VIII & Elizabeth I Coin Pack - Small
Henry VIII became king of England in 1509. Henry renounced the papal supremacy and proclaimed himself Head of the Church of England and dissolved the monasteries. He had six wives in his quest for a male heir. Henry VIII was the first English monarch to have a navy and he also founded the Royal Armouries.
Elizabeth I was daughter of Henry VIII and became Queen in 1558. She imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots and eventually had her executed. After years of friction Philip II of Spain sent an Armada to England in 1558 which was defeated by the English fleet.
The reproduction Henry VIII groat shows a bust of Henry on the obverse and the royal shield of arms on the reverse.
