Box of Cranberries Ornament

Box of Cranberries Ornament

$ 6.95

The arched, pink-white ibimi flowers reminded the Pilgrims of the neck, head, and beak of a common European bird, the crane. Because of this, the settlers began to call ibimi by another name: “crane-berry”. Over time, the word was shortened to cranberry.

Cranberries were so important to the Pilgrims that they wrote laws protecting those growing near the settlements. No picking was allowed on public bogs, and only ripe berries could be picked on private land, thus ensuring their regrowth.

Celebrate this beloved berry with our wooden Box of Cranberries Ornament, handmade for Plimoth Patuxet by a local artisan.
