Framed Quillwork Strawberry

Framed Quillwork Strawberry

$ 56.00

This beautiful Framed Quillwork Strawberry is handmade by Natasha Sacobie, a Wolastoqiyik visual artist who lives in Bilijk – Kingsclear First Nation. Her work depicts nature's recipe that creatively speaks to Wolastoqey history, spirituality, and culture. She enjoys exploring with unlimited color palettes and a variety of natural mediums. Combining a love for vintage flair, archival research and nature, Natasha plans to fulfill vital educational needs through contemporary art, in order to keep Indigenous language, tradition and culture alive.

To create these quillworks, Natasha harvests the quills of recently-departed porcupines that she finds outside. She then dyes the quills and threads them into birch bark, creating familiar images of nature that pay homage to Indigenous culture.
