Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) Type: Perennial. Where to Grow it: All regions. Bloom time and height: Spring 12 in. Sun/Shade: partial shade, acidic soil. How to Grow it: Best in late Fall or early Spring. Place in refrigerator for 30 days. Prepare moist, fertilized soil, cover seed to 1/16" depth, moisten lightly until rains fall. Etc: One of the few native North American fruits. Native Americans gathered cranberries for food, medicine, dye and ceremonies. The name comes from "cranberry" because colonists thought the flower resembled the head, neck and beak of the crane. Evergreen, creeping shrub.
