Christmas Mice Ornament
"By the banks of Town Brook
sits a charming old mill;
The water is rushing,
and the wheel’s never still.
And the miller grinds corn
throughout most of the year;
Except in December
when old Christmas is near...
The Plimoth Grist Mill is a working replica of a 1636 mill where the Pilgrims brought their corn to be ground.
...One night the miller saw a mouse
shivering in the cold;
And gave her corn for supper;
(or that is what I am told)
And a little matchbox bed —
giving shelter from the storm,
With a tiny woolen blanket
to keep the field mouse warm.
That night the mouse had babies —
But not just once or twice,
She had seven mouselings!
and called them “Christmas mice”.
